EVANSVILLE, Ind
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Diana Tkachenko and Nicoli Pereira each earned top three finishes as the University of Evansville women's tennis team completed the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships on Monday at Wesselman Park.
Tkachenko battled Illinois State's Marcia Tere-Apisah to the end, but fell in the championship match of #2 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (6). She earned a second place finish in her inaugural conference outing as a freshman at UE.
Pereira came out victorious in her 3rd place match at flight six singles. She defeated Savanna Hunt of UNI, 1-6, 7-6 (3), 10-4. Theodora Soldatou came home in fourth place in the fifth flight, falling to the Redbirds' Valerija Gercar, 7-6 (5), 6-3.
All three doubles teams for UE took fourth place in their respective flights. Tkachenko and Pereira were defeated by Missouri State's Alye Darter and Phoebe Boeschen, 8-6, at the top flight. At #2 doubles, Chieko Yamada and Soldatou fell to Jana Kustkova and Jelena Karla Vujicic from ISU, 8-4. Bradley's Malini Wijesinghe and Alexa Brandt earned the win over Daria Pentsova and Andjela Brguljan, 8-6.
